just used some last years damp 2.5mm rods to weld sum 3/8 plate together . excelent rods easy strike up and a good peeler weld isnt the smartest as didnt have close reading glases on . 4 quid a box

My workshop looks like Aldi's, theres that much of their stuff in it, simply because it's cheap, it works and most of it has a 3 year guarantee, although never had to return anything yet, my SDS drill is getting a bit rough after 2 years but it's had some pile of abuse and to be honest it has been so good and used so much, I don't think I would have the cheek to claim if it packed in.

I have never seen rods in Aldi (do they still sell them)?

That is quite impressive bright spark regarding those rods. I am no authority at all on rods even though an arc welder is all I have. I have a couple of “power craft” brand tools from Aldi that I have been pleased with.

Wozza is well-informed about rods. It would be interesting to hear the opinions from the guys on here. However, based on your own experience, at £4 per box it has got to be worth a punt. My only concern (irrational thinking maybe) is whether there would be anything nasty in the flux that would create nasty fumes worse than normal.

Enough said. A high-quality substantial machine. Still an excellent job with Aldi rods, though. I'm envious!
