Charnwood cove wood burner

Just spotted a hole at the back of the wood burner. Got some photos but not had chance to strip it down yet, what's the collectives opinion? Repairable or not?

well it looks like metal, and this is a welding forum, so I would say repairable

It all depends on your skill set and what else is wrong with it

When you strip it you’ll know if it’s worth it. To you.

Looking at the state of that bits it’ll be easier to weld a unicorn fart to a rainbow but that’s no worse than some of the crap I end up doing to nurse things along.

It’s what it’s worth to you at the end of the day and what your skills are and what’s wrong with the rest of it but if it came my way I’d do it. Mainly because I want one for the shed

If you can’t fix it should be easy enough to get a spare from Charnwood, just had a quick look at their site, throat plate about £65

Looks like you could bung some fire cement in to fix that.

that looks like the deflector plate easy enough to make up again

So that's what it's called, a throat plate.

Easy to find when yo know what it's called. New one on order but I will be raiding the scrap bins at work next week to make up another one for the future. This one has lasted 5 years and it's very warped as well as having a hole in it.

Will post some photos of the repaired one when I get round to it.

No, not cast. It's plate with the U shaped section welded on. I could just patch it but the main plate is warped.

its warped due to not sitting right or been cleaned out properly you can kinda see that with all of the soot in the hole

that top plate wants removing every 6 months and all of the ash dropped to the body bed and brushed off the top and cleaned out at same time

Different stove but worse situation, replacement part was £60 this cost £25 for a piece of 5mm plate and a couple of hours bending and welding. Much better than the original one.
