i have a vw 12v splits creen camper ,i'd like to fit a split charger on it as the solar panel can't keep up with the fridge [& its not always possible to park on a hill !]. does anyone have any recommendation from experience?
will have a look there, thanks,i suppose you think the leisure one suffers as the cable being longer causes volt drop,i can't imagine that being a problem with an air cooled vw ,the dynamo is pretty central between the 2 battery trays.Split chargers dont work well long term. In my experience batteries are not all equal and one allways suffers, normally your leisure battery because it is the furthest from the alternator, you are better with 12v-12v charger.
Look on boat forums re auxiliary battery charging that will explain it better.
certainly is a dynamo the alternator came out the following year witth the new model,so may upgrade to that aswell.Dynamo? Are you sure? If so, you will not get much output from it for charging two batteries as well as running the electrics.
