Changing registration No

Wifey has just bought a scooter a Vespa ET4, jolly pleased with it.
I saw her after her first ride and she looked scared to death. Two days later she looks like scooter chick.

Anyways. She is not too satisfied with the registration no. I can understand.
it starts with the letters LK, two numbers and ends UNT. Cracked me up when she showed me. Would I have spotted? maybe after a year or two. Would teenagers spot it? possibly.

So a change of number would be appreciated. I would tough it out. Nevermind.
She wants a change.
She does not care what it is changed for (I will die laughing if it involves a certain set of letters).
How do we do this, no need to buy a set plate just a random set of letters.
Main thing is minimum expense.
Anybody got any ideas?

The minimum I believe a private place sells for these days is £350. I'd give DVLA a call and ask if they would change it because of what it spells. They'll soon take it off you

Have a look on DVLA website for cherished plates, they go for a lot less that 350 quid. I bought one a few days ago.

Look on eBay.
Neighbour bought a plate that matched his initials for £80 and that included the DVLA transfer fee so the plate actually cost nothing !

get on dvla registrations. pick the cheapest and go from there. price includes transfer fee's and you get a list of what to do after you pay. my mate has just bought a plate for £190 including all fee's

also worth noting, you can make a vehicle look older by replacing the plate, but not make it look newer by replacing the plate.

for instance, you can put a 1976 plate on a 2010 model vehicle, but not a 2010 plate on a 1976 vehicle.

What size is the scooter engine ? Can you put personalised plates on anything under 600cc ?

Are you sure? If you re-register an English reg car in NI it gets this years plate and vice versa. Couldn't you just SORN it for a week and then get a new reg?

He is correct. In essence you can't make a vehicle appear newer by using a newer plate. I guess some people are bright enough to read the V5c.


bizarrely a new old stock vehicle, that's never been registered. Will be issused a current date related plate.

E.g. I've two slabside gixxers. Both show the date of manufacture as 5or 6 yrs before the reg issued. Is that not the same.?

When we came back to live in the UK I brought my Spanish car back and had to get it UK registered...rather than have any old reg I bought a plate with my, and my wifes, initials on it...she liked the idea so we bought one for her....£400 the pair plus the fees from DVLA.....she 'gained' a few years on her cars age but wanted them in squence.

Nobody has yet suggested the swapping if a "cherished" number. I think I am right in saying that if you buy another bike with MOT, even though it may be a heap, you should be able to transfer it for the £80 fee. I have gone from my bike to a van and back, but I had half an idea that bike to bike transfers have some limitations. So keep an eye on Ebay for a registration you like at a price you are will ing to pay, then sell the new bike with its new registration that the DVLA will assign.
