chalkboard/graphite matt black

Can anyone recommend a brand of matt black paint? I mean like a charcoal/graphite/chalkboard black - no shine whatsoever and possibly got a grey tint to it.

I've tried Hammerite & Coo-Var smoothe blacks but they're really plastic looking and are pure black without that grey undertone I'm on about.

This is for occassional exterior forged ironwork with a primer underneath. Ideally I'd like to spray it on but if needs be it could be in a can.

we are using blackfriar blackboard paint on my sons car with a brush. After a couple of coats it looks nice and matt but it does show marks when you work on it, especially greasy fingerprints!

After giving myself brain death by spending MANY hours this morning on manufacturer's and supplier's sites I went down to my local independent car parts shop and got some Autotek Matt Black spray paint. Just tried a test patch and it seems to come up nice. It's acrylic based and so is the red primer I bought which is good that's it's part of a system, though a zinc based primer would have put my mind at ease a bit more. £6 for a 500ml can ain't bad. Better than the £12 cans of Rustoleum or Plasti-Kote from my steel supplier.

I did see blackboard paint but wasn't sure how it'd take to metal.

You would need some form of primer, we are just keying down the original paint and brushing over the top, not perfect but then neither is the bodywork that it is going on

glad you found something to do the job at least the primer and top coat should be happy together, this one hasn't made it out of the garage yet so no idea how it will last when out in the sun and rain
