Chainsaw chain replacement / measuring

I have a Solo 647 chainsaw, it was a pretty decent semi pro saw in the 90's rivalling mid range stihls etc. It still runs like new and has never given me any problems.

The chain is now totally blunt, so I bought the correct Oregon chain as listed on the Oregon website, came today and says on the packet it is the correct chain for the 647. On fitting it, the chain is way too short for the bar. I am guessing I have an extended bar fitted, so how do I go about getting the correct chain for my saw / bar? There are no markings left on the bar or blunt chain so I can't identify what it was. Or should I try and get a standard bar to match my new standard chain?

This plus the sizes off the short new chain, or if the number stamps on the old are still legible you could read them off; you need the thickness of the tangs that go in the slot in the bar, the pitch and the tooth type, although small saws are usually all semi-chisel low-kickback stuff for ease of use. The bar may have the relevant info stamped on it.

Put the bar on the saw, measure from the tip of the bar back to the saw. That is the bar length, order the same size chain. Bar will be 13,15,16 or 18 inches long

Chainsaw chains are measured by the chain pitch and the number of drive links.

So if you measure your old chain you should be able to find what you need.

On the bar it should be stamped with drive link count and chain size. If the bar is well used I'd consider a new bar.

According to acresinternet it came with a 16" or 20" bar and the chain is .325 pitch 0.058". Bar length is what sticks out at the front of the saw you probably have far more than you need for cutting firewood, a 15" bar and chain might be better and easier on the saw. It also came with a 3/8" pitch chain according to some sites so probably best to get matching.

Just count the number of drive links and buy thr same pitch / link thickness as is recommended but with that link count.
