hi

i have oil central heating . some of the radiators are roasting and some are freezing . cold water. i tried to bleed them.

These are ones even in the same room.

They seem to change what ones are cold or warm

any ideas

turn the heating up full blast till some of the rads are red hot and then shut them off. it pushes the hot water down the ones that arent working that may be air locked. most times it works . re bleed if they come on and u may have to balance the system

now do a refire on a first start fire up

now check the speed of each rad for equal heating of the rads at the same time if they are not warming at the incoming feed and tops then you will have to rebalance the system

this is so all rads heat at the same time

One of those cheap laser thermometers used during the pandemic are useful for balancing radiators.

Always worth checking thermostatic rad valves if you have them fitted as they can stick after the long summer period of in-operation. I normally just hip the heads off and check that the plunger pin is free to move.

a quick spray with wd 40 and roger the pin up and down with a pair of pliers
