I'am new to this forum. I would like to get back to finishing a couple of old classic cars myself! I used to spray cellulose some 45 years ago on an old Austin 7 and a couple of old motorbikes. I am really confused about celly now, what's best? Dealers keep telling me I have to go 2K because the new celly just doesn't come up to spec. I've read this site, I'am scared stiff of the stuff! What's best and where do I get it from please? I live in Colchester, North Essex. Thanks for any help.

You're right to be concerned about using 2k, but please don't let it put you off. With the correct equipment (which doesn't break the bank in relation to overall costs of a restoration) you can get brilliant results which far exceed anything cellulose will give you (EDIT: In terms of durability!).
I'm afraid Engineers advice on so called "cumulative" adverse effects is not correct, and ANYONE can be affected without having ever been in contact with 2K previously. I was one of those and was very ill. But I use 2k now, with an airfed mask, and enjoy doing my paintwork. the results are brilliant.
So my advice would be, gather all the info you need to paint your car, get equipped, and have some fun!!!
P.S. Keep a look out for JAYKAY and LANGY, these guys are top blokes and pro painters, and they give good sound advice on any aspect.!!

2K, whilst certainly excellent paint and the modern approach to painting, it does need the correct breathing air supply to ensure your safety and should NEVER be used without, no matter how small the job.
I have recently sprayed a friends motorbike tank using cellulose, a light cutting paste, quick T cut and some Turtle wax and it's like a mirror, beautiful finish.
I think some suppliers just make statements because it's the fashion to do so, I would not hesitate to use cellulose, if however I had all the safety gear and ventilation I would use 2K.

Ok point taken, I was thinking more along the lines of durability, but failed to say so 
I've sprayed a lot of cellulose in the last 25 years, and got good results, but never felt it gave that good hard finish. I know if flatted and polished it can be just as good as 2k.

Thanks for feedback. Cellulose is the only way to go for me. Can anyone name names, what really is a good celly and where do you get it from these days? (JayKay) I looked at the paints4u website, but I don't have ref numbers etc. a phone call: "I want british racing green- dark, not quite Jag, just a bit lighter" will swing it as a paint code!! I do have lumps of rusty metal though! REv

few sellers on ebay if you get stuck , dont think theres a massive choice in brands these days
I got advised on here to use Jawel Paints, they advertise on ebay aswell. I have ordered from them twice now and am pleased and they will also mix up Celly paint for the colour you want not just chip colours that allot told me they would only do. They even got the latest Ford Frozen White on there shelf in Celly which I wanted.
