I've got some thats never been opened but stored in my garage for a few years and was wondering if it would still be useable or is it best of going to the tip?
Hi I have used cellulose paint after storing it for 12 years and it was OK. Open the tin and examine the contents. As to thinners check the tin has not rusted internally. This would contaminate the thinners.
I've never had thinners that long but I have some black paint from a car I painted at least 18 years ago and it still gets used for wheel rims and bike mudguards. I've stored it pre-thinned and it separates but works if you mix it back in.
I sprayed cars in the 60s/70s always using Valentines paints from Ellison Valdis, 2 years ago Reconcreted the garage floor due to the infill expanding - pit shale, and I had umpteen tins of various left overs, dumped lots but what I kept believe it or not has remixed with a bit thinnes and has been used successfully, I also had Plant enamel and this too was ok, so 35+ years some of it. well impressed, so even for practice, I would say no problems, make sure it is totally mixed using a machine--leccy drill etc.and run it through a filter,(womens tights are ideal) preferably when they arnt on the woman.
