Offered to look at a CD unit for a friend. It’s a TEAC CR-H255, quite a nice unit. The CD unit wouldn’t open, she thought one of the kids had stuffed something inside. When you press the eject button it doesn’t even try, no motor / release sound.
Took a lot of getting apart just to get the CD bay out
Managed to release the mechanism manually and all seems free. Put it back together and still no joy - now it’s permanently open (loose, slides open / shut). So perhaps a dead motor?
Out of my depth now, but I’d like to get it fixed for her as it’s got some sentimental value. They’re anything from £50 working on eBay and I’ve been looking out for a knackered one for spares but no luck so far. Are there any companies out there fixing stuff like this nowadays? I used to know a few high street places but with today’s throw away mentality they’re not around any more.
