CCTV..options

Looking to add a new system inside a building, or rather barn. Completely independent of anything already installed.

Options currently on the table, as they seem to get good reviews online are;

HikVision
ReoLink
Dahua

HikVision cameras are good, got a few installed already and they’ve provided fantastic images for what we currently need.

Any first hand views on the above mentioned manufacturers?

any camera plus blue iris on a £150 ebay PC. Email yourself motion alerts, web access, app etc. Cracking software.

Tried a HikVision setup with their NVR and didn't get on with it. Picture setup was fine, setup the NVR when it arrived to test. A few weeks went by and couldn't remember the password, managed to reset the NVR but they'd copied keys to the cameras so they didn't work. The reset on the cameras didn't work.

When I contacted their support they said try the reset - uh didn't you read my email that detailed exactly how I'd tried that and it didn't work? They then said in order to reset they needed the password?!?! Then the POE ports on the NVR died.

In the end I sent it back and got a full refund.

Indoors IR can tricky to get an even light level. Hikvision colorVu has to be seen to be believed in low light & worth considering.

I’ve got a couple of REOLINK units I think they give great picture quality. Using them outdoors they’re triggered by clouds going over or high winds as their motion detection seems to use number of pixels changed. My units are off Amazon at about £45 each and then added a 30gb so card to them. Powered off a POE network switch in the loft and then one of those power line network extenders to get the network down to the router. The app works anywhere and you can see the live feeds and stored events.
