Castotig accessories and help

Hi

Very new to the whole Tig tecnique but was fortunate enough to pick up a Castotig 2002 AC/DC unit, but I have a few queries which I hope you guys
can help me out with?

The torch is very good, but could someone tell me what (and where) I can get some different sized cups and 1.6mm collets and holders (currently has 2.4, which I think is a little large for what i`m up to)?....to be a fussy so and so, has anyone got links to specific places that do them, I have tried several and they all seem to shy away from Castolin spares (is this normal)....or give me a link or two to where I can buy the bits to fit, even if they`re from another make but are known to fit (been told Fronius are same...but having similar problem)....Thanks

Secondly (I may have to start another thread on this to save confusion) I am mainly doing Ally and have researched, watched countless vids, miller site etc and have got a rough idea of set up....but on the 2002 instead of a percent on the frequency (AC/DC) i have (-ve 1-5) or (+ve 1-5) can anyway put me right on what this relates to % wise?

Sorry to ask alot but i`m keen to get dialled in!

Is that the frequency or are you referring to the AC balance?

Sorry, meant the AC balance....

It has the two small knobs next to the AC/DC selector, but uses plus 1-5 or minus 1-5 instead of just a percent dial....i`m just assuming that these two dials are that function, they must be as have diagrams of the plus and minus wave pattern?....

You have frequency and AC balance, as well as adjustment for tungsten size being used. As well as these front panel functions, you can also control welding process using torch trigger switches, and have if I remember right 3-4 differing wave forms, which can be changed by going into the set up mode, which is accessed via the torch switches.

Consumable parts for the Eutectic are only obtainable from Eutectic dealers, and are pretty costly, so if you are going to be doing any amount of welding its a good idea to change the torch, which is easily done by changing the torch fitting to accept a WP series.

Set frequency at 50%, AC balance in the middle, and tungsten size to whatever you are using. All these settings can be varied to alter weld characteristics, but not a good idea to experiment with these till you are used to the TIG process.

Finally make sure you have the correct weld process selected (flick switch on left), before you start welding, as the machine wont work unless you have specific process selected.

It looks like turning it to the left will give you more penetration and turning it to the right will give more cleaning. More cleaning will also heat your tungsten more than penetration so be careful how you use it.

Cheers guys, i`ve been messing with the `background` options via the torch.

Can i just clarify?.....Is more positive penetration and more negative cleaning?

Also, Engineer, thanks.....could anyone recommend a torch to use?.....wouldn`t i then loose the adjustments i need to access the rather confusing settings that the torch alters?

And (sorry, one last thing) does anyone know where I can get a pedal from?

I supplied a WP26 torch which I modified so the it had the same connections to fit the eutectic 2002 ac/dc tig about a month ago. This with enable you to use standard consumables which you can buy off any welding distributor. I can also help with the footpedal to suit your machine. Please PM me if your interest.

Positive cleaning negative penetration, I might be the wrong way round on the dial as I can't see the writing on the small picture. Experiment with it and if the tungsten melts blame me

You need to turn the dial to the left of the tungsten size setting control to the left (+) for more cleaning and to the right for more penetration (-).

To access all of the program functions via the torch switches you will need the booklet that details these, as many of these functions are not detailed in the handbook. You can fit another torch and still use the program functions, by plugging original torch into front panel, using the multi plug attached to the torch lead.

You can modify any suitable air cooled torch to fit the Eutectic front panel plug using fittings which should be obtainable from any good welding supply place, and if you have an old Eurotorch connector for a MIG set, you have most of whats needed already.

However I would not suggest swapping the Eutectic torch for a poor quality cheap WP series, unless its damaged in some way, as the OE torch is very high quality, and you may be disappointed with a cheap replacement in comparison to OE. If you are going to change the torch then get something like a CK, which you can get from Rapid Welding.
