Castle tips?

If using a HF cutter can you drag a castletip over the cutting material? I do, am I doing wrong?

Yes, that is what the slots are for.

You still want to keep a small gap when starting mid-sheet or it will plug up the tip.

I do aswell, never had a problem doing it. They are normally insulated from the main tip anyway.

I thought I was not being stupid by letting the castle drag on the cutting surface! Please read this post 1/32 above or 1mm! Drag a castle tip across the cutting material, give your hand a rest!

Is it a thingy that goes over the end of nozzle to stop it dragging on the material being cut? and just slides or whatever over the workpiece?

Where do I get them from? I try to hold the end of the torch a few mm over the workpiece, this approach sounds easier.

Hmmm, can you get these to fit all torches, wouldnt mind some for the cebora. The whole torch assembly seems a lot slimmer on mine, closer to a tig torch, and have never seen them advertised

Bearing in mind that these things are all basically the same, but I bet that none of them share the same dimensions. If we had a quality government everything would be standardised.

You guys have been on here for years and not heard of a castle tip? I must be in Plasma Heaven, well if I had one at the moment!

They are fitted on our big hypertherm, but not the small one.
Dunno about retrofitting them...?

Re castle tips, it looks like somethng that could probably be kludged in the workshop, if I ever get round to it.......
Drains says "Just one type of cider then Chunko?" Noooo, depends on what you are after, sharp? sweet? bittersweet? blended? single variety?

My plasma cutter had short castle tips. They were a pain as they only extend less than 0.1" from the ceramic. That makes it near impossible to follow a guide.

It did have a long gouging tip. So, I made this adapter:


Took just a few minutes on the lathe. Made following a template easy and it maintained the proper length.

I managed to find long castle tips so no longer need the adapter.

My Lincoln PC40. Plasma takes the same nozzle and electrodes as the Cebora 70 and they are already the castle design.

do you mean cutting tip with cross groove?

The tip is made of copper. It's not insulated from work piece. If you drag on work piece, will there be a transfer arc between electrode and this cuttng tip?

That is a tip designed to be dragged.

The electrode is inside the tip. The outer electrode is floating or connected to teh work.
