Depends on the type of joint, but one method is to put a buttering layer on the cast side of the joint using a nickel based electrode, then make the joint using a 6013 or a 7012 electrode, or for a small job just use a nickel based rod.
Typically you can do this just fine with an ordinary cast rod (high nickel content). I did once find a supplier who sold both cast to case rods and rods designed for cast to steel, but I didn't ask for details.
Brazing is only suitable under certain circumstances - i.e small stuff that can be heated and cooled in an oven or evenly with the torch.
When arc welding it make sure to keep it from getting warm and keep peening it.
