Cast Iron stove door.

Does anyone have any ideas, other than take the thread up another size, to repair the worn threads on this stove door? They are M5 threads and they hold the clips that retain the glass. They are very close to the edge and I am worried of breakout if I take the hole up to M6. Is there anything anyone can think of that could be used to fill these holes so they could be re-tapped to M5? Is there any type of filler rods that could be used to fill the holes? I have oxy/ propane torch if that's any use. Cheers.

these fire are made from the worst garbage cast iron around.....so many inclusions.....
I have owned and repaired quite a few.....
I'm afraid any of mine get drilled out and a brass nuts and bolt is used in it's place...it doesn't look too bad from the front if u replace them all.....
just a note any drill bits I use on this material get placed in the bin as they will never work well afterwards...
pretty much all of this type of fire are throw away once repairs are needed.....
I still have one W German unit with a back boiler I keep just in case that will get the above treatment.....
also in my 50 years of work I have never managed to find any replacement parts for a cast iron fire that fits....

This isn't a Chinese one, by-the-way. It's a late '70s, Britsh made, Coalbrookdale. So, I expect the grey iron to be of a better quality than the more modern ones. The cast iron on these is totally seperate from the actual steel boiler. These threads are the only part of the cast iron that has failed, in fifty years. All the other panels are like new as they are not affected by the direct heat as such. The roof of the actual steel boiler has just been cut out, with a plasma cutter and replaced with 6mm plate though.

They aren't that close. I would have no problem drilling them out and going up to 6mm. Just don't use a hammer drill

There looks to be a fair bit of meat around those holes, I'd go up a size. M5 to M6 is only 0.5mm off each side

I've done loads of these. They always use stupid slot head steel screws and they always seize. Unusual to see one where the threads have stripped. Anyway go up to 6mm and use stainless cap button head screws or drill right through and use the stainless button heads from the outside. Easier and it will look fine if you do all of them.
