Cast iron lathe part mig welded.

A guy sent me this part with the corner busted out. I layed a mig tip in the hole and mig welded it up with cast iron wire. Total welding time 30 seconds. then ground it flush on all sides and drilled out the copper slug. Less than a 5 minute fix...Bob

does this mean you can weld cast iron with a mig? if so where do i get a roll of wire from? and do you have to set up the m/c diffrently

Its possible but the wire is very expensive. Off the top of my head around £50 per Kg

Although a kilo will go an awfy long way

I've never done cast iron mig welding, so the statement above is all I have to say about the subject!

problem is 1kg spools are very rare (if ever), usually 5kg is the smallest
