Career orientation

Hi there!

I've studied welding up to level 3 and I'm studying mechanical engineering (milling, lathes, cad) at the moment.

I was wondering how to focus my future.
I do want a welding job ( I LOVE TIG!) but also I do want a job where I would use lathes and milling machines.

I don't like jobs fabricating frames or railings in a workshop where the welding is minimmum and mostly mig.

I was thinking in the motorbike industry, exhausts...

May any one help me in the career orientation where both, welding and machining are used and the job could be more interesting?

Any ideas welcome!!

Plenty of work of that type as a maintainance fitter
Sounds like your a younger guy. Just remember everything you do 40 + hours a week becomes a little boring over the years

The trick is doing new things and stretching yourself daily. Gates and railings might do that if you stretch yourself in all areas while tig welding up stainless for catering equipment will likely turn you numb when your on your 23 rd sink Polish up of a job

Liking bikes and making hundreds of tail pipes? Well let's say it looses it's appeal as does stood watching swarf come off a lathe

So go for something that can stretch you daily and forget what it actually is even if it's in the drawing office or out on the road

Mining industry in Oz. Sorry maybe not that helpful but that is where I started and is what you described.

This where I started: http://www.riotinto.com/media/media-releases-237_14566.aspx I'd recommend that type of route for any young person who had an interest in engineering type work and wanted hands on experience.

One thing I would recommend is look into industries that you will enjoy but will also pay the bills.
