carbon motor brushes for grinder

Hi Everyone,

two of my grinders have packed up. Both being 850 watt ex Focus "McKeller" grinders.

One of these had a pair of motor brushes in the box, the other did not so I've been able to revive one grinder back to health. However, phoning the Focus helpline (number in the instructions) they say replacement brushes are no longer available. I've done a web search this afternoon and cannot find any.

I'm guessing that carbon brushes are fairly standard items- the same ones probably fit many machines. Does anyone happen to have a site address where I can order brushes based not on the model they fit but on design and dimensions?

I know I should go out and buy a new one, but I absolutely hate throwing things away if they can be repaired!

if u can source sum near the same size slightly bigger u can rub them down to size on some wet and dry sandpaper

I have a Fox table saw and needed brushes, Fox U.K. said it was too old and they couldn't help. Solent could and I got them the next day.

Thanks chaps, good suggestions. I'd e-mailled solent tools, so far no reply. I'll try phoning them tomorrow and good suggestion Bright spark, I did wonder if I could get a similar brush and file it down on the bench grinder to fit the holders.

I guess they are not that critical as long as they are s snug fit in the holder, the spring is about the right length and the connection arrangement to the wiring is compatible.

I had some success a few months ago reviving my ten year old Black and Decker drill with new brushes- still avaliable! This drill was made in the UK not Chinese rubbish so I wanted to save it.

Miles Hardware, google them. Shed loads of spare parts. As suggested, you could adapt them.
