Carbon brushes / commutators

I have an old 110v Bosch 1288.0 sander which needs new brushes.

How/where does one buy them?
The Bosch parts sites don't list the machine, and Bosch after sales have no record of the machine model number.

There is some on eBay marked "1288" but just as a number, no machine description but also says "fits pof50 router" - size 6.3x6.3x16mm. no voltage mentioned.
They're also £12! Which is a lot for a £5 sander.


I haven't opened up the case to measure the brushes.
Would a 110v machine have different brushes to a 240v machine?

Try a tool repair shop, one near me made their own, I suspect in reality they just cut down ones that were too big

there are different grades of carbon brushes. some are harder than others not that there's any way u can tell. old armatures had hard copper segments on them and lasted years .modern ones are soft and wear quickly http://www.morganelectricalmaterials.com/en-gb/products/carbon-brushes/undoubtable everyone just rubs down and fits what's available including me

I took your advice and phoned a local tool repair shop:
Les K power tools

Nice bloke, spent 20 minutes finding the right part from not much information.
He's ordering me a set - £5 +vat.
So job's jobbed.

I needed brushes for the old motor on my lathe.
I found there is a carbon brush maker in nearish to me, Engineering Carbon in Croydon.

According to the link @zzr1200 posted in#8, there's two brush makers within 15minutes of me - at least!

But as I said, I'm sorted.
Will keep the info in mind for future car bootie purchases, however.
