11.7v isn't to save a battery, 12.2v is 50% DOD and I feel very neglectful if I allow a FLA battery to go beyond that or to sit at anywhere near that for more than briefest time. I must get round to making a terracotta fridge one of these days. They are simple, supposed to work well and only need topped up with water from time to time.I assume you want to use solar as its free?
These fridges usually work very well on Gas and dont use much.
As mentioned they are only designed to be ran on 12v whilst the vehicle is moving.
I would just keep an eye out for a 12 v Compressor fridge as they do come up.
The Modern compressor fridges switch off about 11.7 volts so save the battery, I don't feel the split charge is the answer as I feel you need better batteries but you are trying to run a very inefficient appliance on inefficient batteries so you are a bit stuck.
Cool box and a daily bag of Ice may be a cheaper option for now?
