Car window channel?

Is the window channel on cars pretty generic?

I need some for the defender. There are companies selling kits, but at £65 plus vat for a window it seems more expensive than I was expecting.

I guess I was thinking I'd get a roll of it for £20 and do the whole car, but evidently I was mistaken!

So, do I need something special or can I indeed buy a roll from somewhere?

Glass is 4mm thick.

Im going to try and remove the old channel from the old door, and, hopefully, the top of it might have a lesser state of decay, and i might be able to take some measurements.

It seems, from what you say, that i should be able to get some from one of those suppliers though.

A picture might be worth a thousand words .
Years ago 1985 I made my ancient ( 1950's? Daff elastic band ) window lifts out of 2 mm galvanized mild steel sheet and lined them with pond liner rubber to grip the glass which I pushed in after painting both sides of the rubber strip with soapy water .

Don't know if they still do printed catalogue the last I had was 6th edition the drawings are life size mostly they do sample bits 100mm long usually
