car tax hike!

The more I think on this, the more I wonder if it is an April Fools Joke for the 1st April, it makes no sense.

Just downloaded the Summer 2015 budget and yes it is in there!

And the tax only goes on roads after 2020, so for 3 years it is used to balance the books a bit.

it is not just engine size, the real fuel cost is how many miles you drive. Therefore business users will pay more , their costs go up and in the end the customer pays for that, do you still think it's a good idea to add more to the fuel duty?

There should be a location and declared use part to ved, some can't function without a vehicle because of business or location.

What gets my goat is my sister has a golf with the same engine and emissions as my caddy, she pays 30 ved I pay 240....... I also do less miles

I won't look up the numbers now, but I did them once to find out what the break even point, in terms of pollution was between keeping a generic older car on the road, doing average miles per year, or replacing with a new low emissions and doing the same miles...

The break even point, in years, was longer than the average vehicle age in the UK.


So, looking at the numbers alone, it would be more polluting to replace a car then to continue to use the old one!

...but, as has been said above, its shifting pollution if anything, rather than reducing it.
