Hello everyone,
The nutsert was missing. At first it looked as follows (I had pulled a zinc plated tee nut and penny washer through the back with string).
I dispensed of £45 at a garage and got the following. There wasn't much clearance and in hardly any time the metal bent under the weight of the tailgate and the new strut I supplied snapped off
Told they used a nutsert I unscrewed the bolt to put a penny washer behind but found 2 nuts fell off the back
With an interest in older cars, the cost and crap quality of work it's probably no surprise that I want to try take up mig welding - so I'm a complete newbie. What would be the best approach? Should I clean it up (grind to bare metal), drill a hole to accommodate nuts, and put another plate on top? What thickness steel plate should I use?
I'll obviously try get plenty of practice in on some spare bits of plate before I get onto the car.
Thanks in advance
Alan.
