I thought the finished car looked amazing. One thing that is a little frustrating is how the car goes from half finished to near concourse at the end of the show. I realise they can't show every stage but they make huge jumps.
I really like Fuzz, but the welding around the screen....... It looked OK when ground down but when he did it...
The problem is these programs are not aimed at people who understand welding or engineering, they are entertainment that's all. I love watching things like Fast N Loud with the huge budget restorations but they are in a dry state where 50 year old cars don't need welding and the nation is so big you can just order a brand new crate motor/gearbox overnight. It's also unlikely that every car is done in 10 days like they portray but it's entertaining none the less and Richard Rawlings is the ultimate showman.
Project Binky on Youtube is amaving but if it was on CH4 it wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks.
I kind of went off Fast and Loud when it became less about the cars, more about Richard and his other business interests. I find Overhaulin' OK and the cars look amazing when completed, but as you say nearly every component is replaced with a new part so the end result is more or less a new car. They use an incredible amount of filler too.
Car Hoarders is good too, but suffers from the common fault of having scenarios engineered to add drama. Probably my favourite US show is Counting Cars - Danny seems such a nice guy and a genuine enthusiast. They do have obviously set up scenes but overall it's a good show.
I get on with Fast and Loud, even with the deliberate hamming up to the camera from Richard - as the whole thing is a bit of a tongue in cheek fun poked at all these shows where everything must be done in 10 minutes and everything arrives perfectly even though there was a big bust up between 2 of the mechanics over a fallen dorito chip. It doesn't take itself seriously like many of these documentary/soap things pretend to.
