Ive purchased a new DAB head unit for my Defender 90. Its about 37years since Ive messed about with such things.

Rather than fit an additional aerial for-the DAB, Ive a splitter thing to use the existing aerial for both, there is one point Id like a bit of clarification on before I set about things.

“Connect the blue wire to the aerial power lead that is 12 volts with the radio switched on”

Any live from the ignition, there is no power out on the head unit…….?

Before you go too far i'd test somehow wether you can get a DAB signal. I fitted one in the motorhome and it's next to useless half the time, certainly when you get away from areas of dense population, and definitely cuts in and out driving through your neck of the woods.

Just fitted one in the crv... used a glass mount for dab from ebay.... works as good as the proper fitted works van one....
Dash cams tend to wipe them out though

I had DAB in my last Audi mid Yorkshire lots of houses about,
it spent as much time with no signal as with a signal some days, went back to FM

got dab radio in pug van and its good rarely ever goes off ..got a dewalt radio for work and it goes off now and then in punters houses loosing the signal

It looks like the blue/white from the head unit connects to the blue on the aerial thingy.
the blue white should be powered when the head unit is all connected and turned on, it is usually used to switch on an amplifier.

I'd be surprised if that head unit didn't have a remote output (even if it's not blue)
If not, yes, any Inigition switched live will work fine.

As everyone else says, dab can be patchy so a dedicated antenna would be my choice if possible

I suspect that the splitter device will work much less well than a proper aerial. Your FM aerial is about twice as long as it needs to be to be good with DAB, and so your splitter tries to achieve that "shortening" electronically. I'd suspect the outcome to be a significant loss of signal strength and that you'll need to be in a good reception area to get a decent outcome.

I've got one of the splitters and found the signal poor compared to a decent foil type at corner of screen
