copydex used to make them. its a load of needles sandwiched between what looks like a mouth organ and u press it up against an object and the needles take the shape and u can draw round it anyone ??

Last time I saw one in use was watching a carpenter take a profile from a ornate door frame before cutting a beech floor block.

I have one in the toolbox, I made the mistake of buying a 'cheapie' [well, it was for one job...that's my excuse ] and now have a contour gauge with bent pins.

I got a M&W one new from a boot fair. It came with two wooden sticks which I suppose were to be used for manipulating the pins.

EDIT: Beggin' your pardon it wasn't a M&W it was a 'Tempo'. Nice for £2 though.

Search tool station for vitrix profile gauge. Blue thing. Comes in different sizes.

lucky find. I brought some junk home a few weeks ago and just rummaged through and there's a vitrex one in with it . its a bit sun tanned but will do the job
