cant find a start point

any one know where i could find the basic set up technique for making a gate ,
do i need a gig ?
how to keep it from warping ?
how to hold Pisces when welding ?
start at top , bottom or middle ?
as you may guess i have not got a clue but this wont stop me any manuals or tutorials relating to putting a gate together from the start would be ace , but any help would be nice , hope to here from you soon thanks

I normally start with a basic sketch, with the measurements.... dont forget to allow for hinges.

Once you have a design, make the outside frame. Measure corner to corner to check its square. Drill holes in the top rail if needed before you tack it together.
Then layout your design inside the frame. You can see if it looks right before you tack it up.

When it comes to welding, clamp a piece of box/channel/ heavy angle along the bottom. This will keep it as straight as possible.

Im sure one of the gate specialists will be along soon with some more tips....

thanks for the reply , not sure why i would drill the top rail before tacking , this would help how ? as i said i haveint a clue .

If you are putting bars through it. Depends on your design....

that site looks good for what i want , thanks a lot for your posts . will have a good look at it and see if i can manage a gate , this should be great crack , sourcing the materials at the moment , should start in a few weeks , let ye know how i get on , ta
