Can you fill one bottle from another?

I've been trying to find someone in the NE to fill or exchange my pub bottles. I got a reply to say a local firm connects his bottle to yours and it fills it to a level of 3-4 inches as seen by the condensation on the side of the bottle. Cost is £10.
What do you guys think?

I think.... unless they have the right gear, they shouldn't be doing it. Its Dangerous.

They would also need a tank modified with a siphon or use the source tank upside down.

A "real" place will weigh the tanks to tell how full they are.

messing with high pressure bottles, is a good way to invite injury. Industrial bottles are filled to 230 bar pressure thats 3000 psi. Thats one hell of a pressure, something i certainly wouldnt want to mess with.

As well as all the safety concerns, 3 or 4 inches of CO2 in the bottom of a bottle for £10 is a rip-off considering I got a full refill for £20 from a legititimate supplier. (I think that was expensive too!)

If there is a spoors near you they do exchange at 12 squids for a full bottle.............

As for messing with bottles............

Lets but this into perspective.

A car tyre is 30psi and if it blows out the ejected rubber can take the side of your face off,..........

So 3000psi is equal to 1.360.777 tons (a ford mondeo ) pushing every square inch of that bottle trying to escape.

I know my local dive shop has a safety area with a cage around the fill area as lots of folk have been eradicated / maimed around the world when filling dive bottles just sounds F++&%ing silly messing with high pressure bottles.
I know of one accident at a drag strip where some silly burger tried having a sniff at the nitro's bottle in the pit area at night and not knowing anything about the use of gas this was upside down for refilling the pony bottles in the car and he ended up with grade one burns to his face. I have also seen what nitro gas under pressure can do when a nitro bottle on a Drag bike came detached half way down the strip he had full race leathers on and still had burn marks on his leg from the gas tube that was waving around like a mad snake

Spoors is just off the main street opposite snowballs(another regular haunt of mine) and just up from auckland timber.....

Thanks, they charge £80 for a bottle and £15 a refill.
Looks like I'll only be able to get my bottles filled at a pub. I havent bothered going out since the smoking ban and my local has closed because of it so there could be a few problems.

Bit confused now. Spoors I think only refill their own bottles which are £80 to initially buy. My bottles say Carlsberg on the plastic handle. Will Spoors/Snowballs exchange them?

Yep just rub off the carlsberg (thinners,sandpaper,nail varnish remover) walk in the shop dump your empty bottle by the door and pick up a full one.

Give em you 15 dabs (the price changes every week) and he'll rite you a receipt out.

On a few ocasions I have just gotten bottles off drays or from the council recycle center (tip)

And taken them down and exchanged them no bother.

Its this type of practice where accidents become inevitable IMO.

A cylinder is a high pressure vessel engineered and periodically tested for safety. (not just some old bottle with a valve on) A filled cylinder could explode and easily take out a block wall like a torpedo!!

Every square inch of your cylinder has 3000 pounds of pressure trying to escape when filled. If it has come from an "Unreliable source" its probably not been tested or seen a replacement valve for years.

Pub cylinders are particularly known for blowing up because beer/juice residue can be pumped back into a cylinder on old systems and left to corrode from the inside.

If this firm exchanges them you could cause them or another customer to fill/take a dodgy cylinder. You may even get your old ones back when you exchange again.
