good morning everyone. My partner has a Renault scenic which has seen better days. 1.9 dci, 02 model. Engine seems fine, (less than 100k) but it's now looking tatty and battered so I thought I'd look round for something to replace it with. A woman at work has just got a new Nissan Juke, 1.6 petrol model. I had a look at the Juke and thought my Mrs would like it. Quite high driving position, chunky looking. So I got chatting to the woman who owns it. She loves it! She was raving about the sat nav, the reversing camera, the bluetooth and all the other little things. So I asked about MPG. Well, that set her off again! Her eyes went big as she told me how GREAT it was. In economy mode, she gets 33MPG! That's motorway and around town combined. 33MPG??? Can that be right? A brand spanking new medium sized car returning figures like that? Parked a few slots down is a great looking Landrover Defender. Y reg, td5. This has monster truck sized wheels with tyres that gives hedghogs a 50 50 chance. Speaking to owner, he says he gets 30 - 33mpg from that (unless he's towing a trailer with a couple of ton on it) drops to 28 ish then. Infact, my Transit must beat those figures! I know I'm comparing diesel to petrol but my partner only potters round town, never goes on the motorway. Ihe only reason I was looking at something that size is if we go out as a family any distance, we use her car due to the van only having three seats. Someone restore my faith in modern technology and tell me those figures are wrong please? And before anyone comments on the WOMAN driver, my partner is a woman driver and a bad driver I must add.
