Can I use Stainless Wire??

Afternoon all, I have a really basic Sip Mig welder that I want to use to just tack stainless exhaust parts in place as I build it before getting a pro to Tig weld it all properly. I can pop down to Machine Mart for a small roll for £18 and have Argon gas already, only the question is, at 90 Amps max should my machine be ok just for tacking?

If it'll tack mild steel at that kind of thickness, stainless should tack OK. You may just find that Halfords have the small rolls of stainless cheaper.

Yes I'll look at halfords, i really do only need a small roll for the little amount of welding I'll be doing so have been struggling to find it on small rolls!

Where about are you Paul, if youve got an empty spool i`ll wind you some off of one I have, it wont be precision wound, but I doubt the small spools are anyway. Other than that, if your not too far away, i can pop over with the spool, you can tack up what you need to do while i`m there, bit reluctant to let the whole thing out of my hands, bit pricey, sure you understand

Wow thanks Jay but I haven't got all the parts I need just yet and will then have to measure/cut etc so am another week away just now.
I'm in Chertsey but will be doing the job in Staines.
I've got to get some 8mm tips aswell yet and my mild steel reel is pretty full.
I guess the final prob would be my incredibly slow pace!
If I can get a spool though I may take you up on the offer of some wire?

I'd be interested if you or you know anyone who does Tig welding on Stainless though as I could do with another quote for when I've got the exhaust ready to weld properly?

Hello Weldingscotty, we'll as I was advised previously I can get a 700g spool of stainless wire from halfords for £17 and that'll probably be loads.
If I could get less for less that would be fine but your 200g or 700g spool would still cost a bit to post right? Of course I'd reimburse you but is it worth it?
