I'm looking to purchase a welder for automotive fabrication (mostly exhaust piping and intake piping).
I know I shouldn't have any problem at the very least tacking mild steel with a 115v mig, but I had someone tell me that I wouldn't be able to tack SS or aluminum with a mig. Is this true?
I can't afford a $2700 Miller Dyansty 200dx (a TIG I'd really want), but I do have someone who can "finish weld" aluminum and SS for me very cheaply.
Can someone explain to me why I wouldn't be able to tack SS or aluminum pipe (in like 3-4 places just to hold things in place) before I send it to a TIG to be finish welded?
Thanks!
