Can I return my new safety boots

This morning I went to screwfix and bought some new dewalt safety boots after I read the reviews online, witch made the sound perfect.

Anyway tried them in the shop seemed very comfy wore them for a few hours without problem until I was working crouched down on my toes and the back edge of the toe cap was cutting in to my feet so bad I immediately took them off and put my old ones back on. I work on my toes and knees for hours on end at work inside the machines we build.

So is there any way of returning them on the grounds of not fit for purpose or am I just £40 out of pocket and they where on special £20 off

My guess is that as you were given the opportunity to try them on and had worn them for "a few hours" and they hadn't fallen apart or some such you will not have the right to return them.
That said a calm and reasoned approach to the manager may do the trick.
Presume that you've had boots that were comfortable for your particular use in the past so may be it's a case of biting the bullet and going that route again.

As Wristpin says you tried them on in the shop, so technically you have no right of return. However I would argue it was to make sure they fitted, you were not to know they would be unsuitable for the purpose, despite them fitting.

I find the likes of Screwfix are very good in taking back goods that have been used. I bought a pair of wellys the other day, and I could have turned around in them they were so oversize. The manager told me to use them and he would call me when they had the next size down, and if they fitted he would exchange them.

Take them back. I have found Screwfix staff to be very good with returns. As long as they look unused I think you will be OK. The staff are unlikely to quibble, its much easier for them to issue a refund than argue the toss. You may get different staff to the people that served you anyway so they wont know any different. Alternatively get your wife to return them. Women are so much better at returning stuff and brazening these things out. If you asked this question on a female dominated forum they would be wondering what the issue is frankly. £40 quid is a lot of money to lose.

Well I've had a stroke of luck a friend has just called round and bought them off me.

So off boot shopping again any recommendations for super heavy duty boots that I can wear 16 hours+ a day 7 days a week.

I rate the scrufs tornado boots. As a spark I'm often on knees and toes and there comfy. My current work issues are a pair of doc martins hiking boot type thing and I'm likening them a lot. Downside of those is the mrs liked them so much I ended up having to get her a pair

Glad you got a result, but I'd echo the other responses re Screwfix; I've always found them very easy to deal with.
They have a "no quibbles" 30 day return so, as long as you can return the goods in the original packaging and they look as if they can be resold, then I don't think you'd have a problem.

You have right of refund under the Sale of Goods Acts. The boots have failed to give satisfactory service so it is not your problem. Original packaging etc is not required, despite it being in some companies terms and conditions. SoG overrides it.

I wear my boots all day. Not to weddings but, I will wear them out of choice at the weekends tot he shops etc. they are rail approved and are made by Goliath.
