If it is from NZ it will be Radiata, could be wet if it felt heavy, it's definitely not hardwood or even good quality pine for anything other than framing houses, which is what it is used most extensively for. It's speed grown on plantations, I think it takes about 5-10 years for the trees to get to size then they mill it. The rings are really far apart from this stuff. The dregs and shavings get sold as firewood kindling, it's a big industry.
