camlock?. jig

I've got a load of camlock fitting for furniture , I think that's their name they're the things that fit over a pin and you lock using large phillips screwdriver.


Anyone know where I can get jig for lining up the holes for the locking pce and the pins?
Tried eBay comes up with locks which is why not sure on name of bits.

Perhaps a dowelling jig will do the purpose: it won't give you the cam lock depth position but that should be easy enough to mark out on the jig face.

Not sure what you mean by a jig though
If you are wanting to use some on a fresh bit of wood you could make up a jig much like a dowel drill guide.

What I guess you want to do is to bend a bit of sheet metal up with a large hole on one side for the camlock, then a smaller hole in the other side for the pin hole. Hope this makes sense?

I've used quite a few if those in the past and just measured it all out. Tbh I found it more hassle than it was really worth. They work ok but it just seemed to be a lot of faffing around. On 15mm chipboard, you don't get much margin for error! I've not tried it on 18mm but that would probably be better. Never used them on real wood though. I have a few boxes of them in the garage that will probably never get used now! Iirc i used a forstner bit for the cam holes, but I had to grind off the point or it would pierce the outer face of the panel. Barrel nuts work better I think, but they're not as 'invisible'.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with them, and if you find your jig. I seem to remember I thought about a jig myself, but never got 'round to it.

Perhaps having a jig would make it all worthwhile!
