Had a weird problem today.
Virgin broadband was down much ofvthe day. But coincidently the network between my router and switch in the backroom was down.

I put this down to Virgin being down.
But when the wireless came back the hard wired Internet did not work.

So not a fan of coincidences I started to eventually accept it must be two separate issues.

So hot my network connector out and found number 7 on the remote AND the master does not light when connected in one way.
Switching the boxes gets similar but the Master box misses 7 and then more strangely lights 7 and 8 at the same time.
I have reterminated with the correct tool box boxes number 7 striped white and brown. Still the same results.

The boxes are from screwfix and up until now have been fine.

Any suggestions.....

Sounds like a cable or tester issue.
Have you got another cable to check the tester?

Tester works give on other cables. Each end of the main cable is terminated in a box. Cable is external cable.

So each end uses a patch cable from the box to router and switch on the opposite end.

Those patch cables test fine.

It sounds like the cable is faulty then.

I'd be visually checking all the easy to access bits of the cable, then probably devising someway to test the bare cable with a multi-meter.
I'd probably start by checked there is no continuity between any wires with all wires non-connected, then twist each pair together at one end, and test for continuity through the pairs at the other end.

Find someone with a tdr you can borrow.
Easiest tool to fault something like that if it's the cable.

Change the modules/socket they're quite inexpensive and could be the problem. Doing a blind trial and error to solve it.
