Really? mine was cheep then although I thort it was expensive at the time.

Prices for this sort of thing is getting out of hand IMO, compared to the price of the actual lathe

That's actually being bid on as well! I was watching a '140 gap bed "gap" bit listed on there for £300. I figured it would be worthless as each one would be matched to the bed/ways but apparently the seller thinks not!

A fixed steady is one of those things you wouldn't miss until you've had one, I couldn't be with out now. Don't use the traveling one as mutch.

Smart workshop thieves - too awkward to steal a lathe but pinch the "gap" and someone will pay through the nose to get the one that fits their machine back!

-that wont be much cop . the gap bed is fitted then the lathe surfaces ground so its not going to fit accurately to another lathe

I know you could use it as a stand for the fixed steady you've just payed a kings ransom for, in case it falls over.

That's exactly why it would work.

if u picked a decent steady up cheap u could soon machine a base for it to fit your lathe

It's eBay weirdness really. Just recently I managed to get a brand new fixed & travelling steady for the M300 delivered for £155, both genuine Harrison parts never been used.

The steady looks like an easy part to make.

what u will find is-some people sell the lathes without steadys faceplates and a 4 jaw chuck they get a good price for the machine then a month later sell the chuck and accessories for nearly the same price as the machine and double there money

and its only going to be scraped/machined to fit your own machine if there's enough material to do it.
