Good afternoon to all the two wheel riders.

Quick question, as I'm putting together a motorcycle trailer that had been repurposed at some point in its life. It was missing the loading tray when I got it.

What tyre widths does everyone run? So I can get an idea of how wide to construct it..

Generally the biggest super bike will be a 200 section. Over that you'd be looking at big cruisers etc.

I run a 180 or 190 depending how I'm feeling on new tyre day!

The channel on mine is an ERDE with a nice friendly end section on it -

It is 140mm at the bottom and 180mm at the top.
I've also got a C-section one which is 230mm wide, which would probly take most car tyres...

The ramp doesn't need to be the width of the tyre, in fact the wider the tyre is the less likely it is to fall off a narrow ramp.

Have a length of alloy chequer plate, around 3mm thick which I was going to get folded up.

Then make a hoop for the front and some form of ramp for the back. It is a break back trailer though, so I could use a bit of steel chequer plate for the ramp if I can't find any other alloy..

As long as it's not too narrow, I sold a Suzuki Bandit and the buyer came to collect it with a trailer, the front tyre wouldn't sit low enough in the channel to make it safe to transport so he had to ride it home.

That is a big question for us lowly ones, 120 on the Guzzi and 80 on the MZs.

I repurposed a caravan chassis recently - went for 200 which works well for the 180 rear. I made a channel/ramp assembly which pivots on the axle to save weight and makes it easy to disassemble for storage.

Don't make them too skinny - trying to unwedge a bike from a trailer is not fun. :-)
