Calculating eBay postage costs

Evening all,

I'm pretty happy buying and selling off eBay, but the one thing that I generally steer clear of is posting things because I find it to be a bit longwinded trying to work out postage costs in advance (aka laziness), so I normally just put "Free P&P". I was wondering if anyone has any good websites or companies they use that allow you to get an idea of postage costs before you know where you are the sending your item?

Thanks Fazerruss, looks good. Sometimes you get better service from less well known companies, I'd be willing to give this company a go. I'd normally use CityLink as they visit my workplace everyday...

I try to avoid using a courier, although in fairness I have never lost a parcel... I did however notice my star ratings begin to slide.

Couriers quite often take a day or two longer to deliver than they advertise, I think this was the reason my stars dropped.

It all depends on what you are selling and the weight, if it is heavy items then the royal mail prices are a nightmare, couriers easily beat them by as much as 50% and in some cases up to 80%.

The biggest issue I think is the increase in scammers on ebay, the claims for item not received etc has increased dramatically over the last couple of years, then ebay in all it's greed decided it wanted 10% of the P&P charge you make, in effect taking money for a part of the sale that they have nothing to do with.

i use my local courier regularly for collections & deliveries for several years & the only problem ive experienced is no reply @ the time of day the person stated they would be in,however i recently was tempted by parcel 2 go ,with their cheap rates & i,m still waiting for them to deliver 5 weeks later,theres no phone number so i tried live chat -whilst they agreed to investigate i haven,t had a reply.btw i pay £10 +vat up to 10kg.

then ebay in all it's greed decided it wanted 10% of the P&P charge you make, in effect taking money for a part of the sale that they have nothing to do with.

They had to do something to counter the 99p item and £40 postage scam though. I suppose it's the easiest solution for them to protect their revenue. It also encourages free P&P which they like to promote.

what ever you use make sure you get a signature over wise your open to being screwed by eBay and pay-pal

I have an 'issue' running at the moment. Bought a piece of engineering kit, won at the starting price of £80 plus £3 postage. Seller rings me up and says he can't post it for that! SO WHY ADVERTISE IT? Then he says he can't send it until paypal give him the money, and as he's changed his bank account that's going to be weeks! I've not yet raised a 'case' against him, but I've given him a deadline before I do. There are some plonkers on eBay !

i had a problem while back when i listed an item on eBay but had changed email address but the auto fill bit still loaded old paypal email address. listing showed item paid but i had't had an email. tried to find out what was going off and the help bi of paypal was hopeless and was subjecting all kind of strange things so it could be that seller is having the same problems.

Why not get him to refund your PnP then you organise a courier I use my hermes and have not had any problems find it a LOT cheaper than british mail
some times it is cheaper to send a parcel with hermes than a large envelope with british mail!!
I sent an a4 envelope very full with invoices that would not go through the 'SLOT' it cost i think £8, signed for, but I had a crankshaft 10kgs sent the other day that cost £10!!

raise a case with ebay asap if i get any problems now i do this straight away always seems to work because the seller is then having to deal with ebay and pay pal i got fed up of being messed about on a few little things

Or even the threat of one, Mrs Robo was being messed about over a refund so I put together a nice e-mail stating if the money wasn't refunded in 7 days I would contact the resolution centre, refunded next day!
