Just watched this program on "Quest" Some bloke just ripped to pieces a very nice example of a BSA DBD34 Gold Star and turned it into what he called a "bobber" The result was a hideous girder forked monstrosity. Did anyone else watch it? To be honest I was spitting feathers, how could anyone wreck a superb classic like a Gold Star and produce such a horror.

It's TV, was it a genuine DBD34 with an RRT2 gearbox? There's a fair few out there that that look the part but have been fiddled with to fool people.

I don't suppose we'll ever know. It looked really tidy before they ruined it. Sacrilege.

My mate had a gold star, Lovely classic bike Stylish look and superb sound, You could recognise the sound before you saw them, If it was a genuine Goldie the person doing it needs "Bobbing"

A guy I worked with bought one new in the early 60's, last time i saw him a few years ago he still had it.

Side story, I went on one of my Jap bikes to see him (may have been the Bandit) and I let him try it out, when he came back he said the brakes are good, he started braking for an island where he normally would on the Goldie and almost stopped dead in the road!

Brakes on old British iron were apawling, if you wanted to stop on a Goldie you had to have the "Eddie Dow" supperleggera front forks and also his rare 8 inch full width front brake.

I also agree with the OP if the idiot wanted a "bobber" he should have built it from scrap parts.

To spend 20 grand and then cut it up, there's only one thing that needing bobbing.

Brakes on old British iron were apawling

The brakes on my BSA M20 are decent and I have total faith in them, I can lock up the back easily and the front has got plenty of bite, not bad considering they are only drums. The Matchless on the other hand is terrible, I have no trust in them at all, even when converted to twin leading shoe the front is pathetic, it's a shame because it spoils what would be a good bike but you just can't relax and enjoy it because you know if you need to stop in an emergency you'll more than likely hit what you're trying to avoid.

It'll get sold one day as I rarely ride it because of the poor brakes, I'd rather plod along on my BSA any day.
