I like your conversion ideas, it will certainly suck and spit, suck petrol and spit axles/transmissions.
I built a series 1 V8 80" for trialling and safri racing many years ago, just an under powered Rover V8 with a 4 barrel carb/inlet of off a Buick Skylark.
Axles are the weak point now as I'm using a Muncie gearbox to handle the power
