CAD Software

I am after a bit of CAD software, just after suggestions please. Just enough to CAD up the mods I am going to make to the tow along crane.
Sketchup, SolidWorks where two I have heard mentioned

I used to use AutoCAD that, ahem, used to come from the Jolly Roger! But now I use Draftsight which is completely legit and free and identical to Autocad.

I should have said that 3D Freecad is of course free and legal, as is http://librecad.org/cms/home.html if you are looking for 2D CAD software.

Jump on RS's website and download Design Spark. A fully functional free CAD package championed by RS. Loads of support and RS user forums for it as well.

Solidedge 2D is free, you just need to register.

What I am hoping to be able to do is, to say enter 1200mm x 400mm x 5mm and it will create a box section to those dimensions etc?
