Cable Ties, Zip Ties

I know, there are lots of places to get them, common as much and not a specialist subject.
But. I'm so fed up with crappy ones. They snap when you tighten, just a nip, they deteriorate in sunlight.

I've seen some very expensive ones too, I'm just looking for a decent, reliable cable tie.

What do you use and wouldn't use others, you know, the ones you always buy? So that means anyone who doesn't care, doesn't need to say.
"I don't care I just buy the cheapest", there I've said it for you, so you don't have to.

I go to my local trade outlet, not screwfix or toolstation, for these. A few pence more but better. I always use black - better resistance to UV.

The ones from Screwfix or Toolstation have always worked fine for me. They'll all likely degrade eventually, with UV, & become brittle or snap.

All nylon type will degrade.

Hellerman are a cut above the generic no name ones, but I’ve never really had much of a problem with any I’ve used (they are used mainly inside in electrical panels), even some Aldi re usable ones that I’ve used to hold a sun shade from blowing away for a few years outside.

Worth paying extra for proper uv resistant ones if they are used outside for critical applications.

I tend to use RS components or local electrical wholesalers ties, as above Hellerman are the dogs doo-dahs but at a cost.

u resistant ones from beal are mmy go too for use out side in the sunlight

In my experience the ones that fail when I tighten them have been when I was using one to small for the job. I just use a bigger size, usually cures the problem.

yep thats the ones io buy and use all the time .tie wrapped a fibre optic cable to a catenary wire 30 meters long and its still there after 25 years

I got a packet from Aldi or Lidl, absolute garbage. Break as soon as they get tight. They feel hard to the touch. The ones my son brought from his work are pliable and don’t break. They get them a motor factors, bag has no brand on them.

I have found the lidl ones to be absolutely garbage also.

I get my zip ties from screwfix and find them OK quality. I say OK as I have had the odd tie that wouldn't do up fully so not the best out there but usable for most projects.

I've got some that have a little lever on them, so you can undo them and use them again.
There brilliant just can't for the life of me remember where I got them.
