ok electrical peeps, what size cable to run from my phase convertor to run, 2 2.2kw idle motor, a 2.2kw motor and .4 kw motor all at once.

Gut feel is 2.5, 4 core sy cable. 1.5 just feels to small, total run is 3 m.

If 230v and 7kw it's about 30 amps so 4mm I'd say.

415 v 3 phase.

7 kW @ 415, .8pf would be 12.17 amps. 1mm will do 13A but as it is motors I would go for 2.5mm to cover the starting currents and reduce impedance.

Thanks, thats what Id been led to believe, just seemed a tad light to me, for the task.

If you can terminate 4mm ok then it may well be worth it for the slightly bigger cost, dont forget phase converters are more liable to volt drop problems on start up the bigger you can keep the cables the better.

Doubt Ill have space for 4mil. Will try 2.5 see what happens

2.5mm will be well enough . it will carry 28 amps. 1.5mm would do but 2.5mm hardly any thicker so go for that
