Really? Depends what you class as a 'lot of money'; I've just paid nearly 200 quid for a pair of cable cutters and I don't really use them that often. Cut a long story...ordered a pair of Irwin (Record) because they are a very reputable make + had "Made in Sheffield' stamped on the handles in the picture (very reputable supplier)...turn up...made in bleedin China! Sent back. If I want Chineses I'll pay £19.99 & not £199.99! We have all become accustomed to inferior cheap imports at unsustainable low prices, so the real deal now looks "expensive"...not so, decent stuff still costs

Why, you got a good recommendation? Not interested in the lowest price, just quality (preferably British) that will last.

the knipex snips are the best. good for cutting piano wire not that i do .i probably cut 150 wires a day and they last about 9 month before loosing there edge or get blown up a bit quicker

I'm looking at cutting up to 50mm copper welding cable! Knipex do them for around £220. Are they "Manufactured in Germany", or "From a German Based Company" like a lot of other stuff on the market nowadays ?

Knipex are owned by Draper now arnt they? I have some Knipex side cutters, don't know what's made where. I imagine the smaller stuff is made in China. They have lasted well.

knipex and elora are both part of draper all their stuff seems really good to me though knipex are all made in germany link

I have some old Knipex end cutters, pincers and they are brilliant cable cutters but would not go as large as you want. I use them on Bowden control cables a lot as they make a clean cut and the ends don't splay out after cutting.

side cutters are ok to 6.0mm either elliot lucas or knipex are the best but anything larger u need cable shears .there normaly about 24 quid a pair i been getting them for 9 quid

Knipex are very nice good tools, Snapon hav them make their pliers and cutters etc, but they aren't as nice as Knipex's own stuff which you can get straight off the Mac tools vans

Becuase I reckon it's like you said above, is it actually manufactured in Germany, or farmed out, under the guise of 'top quality'.
Besides, you should buy home grown if you can; we wouldn't be in the s***e we are in now if everybody did!

i've had a pair of kewtechnik cable shears for 10 years. they have curved blades and are easy to sharpen up with a round file. wouldn't cut 50mm2 though but cut 25mm2 ok. maybe they do a bigger pair. best cable cutters i've ever had and only cost me 20 or 30 quid new but i doubt they're made in uk.
