Buying a welder

Firstly, I apologise for asking for knowledge that is most definitely already available but I would like definite answers!

My main interest is building custom (pedal) bikes such as those from http://www.atomiczombie.com/

I live in the UK.

I've seen the Aldi welder and the topic here about it. Something tells me it probably isn't the best thing to buy. I would like something under £200 and is a gasless MIG. Am I being realistic? If so what would you recommend?

Why not go for a dual purpose gas, gas-less machine then you have the best of both worlds? Personally, I don't think you would get the very best results with a gas-less machine & would be better off using gas. You get a much smoother weld with gas which would be beneficial on tubular work. Visibility can also be a problem with gas-less with all the fumes it gives off, again a consideration when trying to weld a joint around a tube.

For around 200 quid you could get a clarke 151 dual purpose, regulator and wire.
Thats what I got and its perfect for me. I am just restoring a Manta A series so mostly bodywork with occasional chassis repairs.
