buying a VW Touareg.

I,m toying with the idea of selling the Land Cruiser after many years of faithful service, Does anybody have any experience of the VW Touareg 3.0ltr V6 diesel,
I really like the look of them but want something that is also ultra reliable too, I'm not one for changing vehicles very often and want something that will do me without having to spend a small fortune on garage bills.

stick with the land cruiser, japanese all the way, too much technology in the vw, you might have bills keeping the land cruiser rolling, by vw will have much larger bills when it goes wrong

Underpinnings are the same as Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. If it goes wrong I bet you'd end up paying Porsche rather than VW costs !
Still like them though

Friend also has run two, Iv driven his latest a bit and towed with it, a nice drive not keen on the active cruise control, but thats something you would get used to. pretty quick for a 4x4 a fairly frugal we did about 400miles on £80 just before Christmas.

Something to watch mind, he hit his on a kerb in the snow, garage bill came in at 7k, parts are certainly not a bargain for them.

Had one and loved it, stolen via burglary and never seen again. If you get one, tracker is a good idea.

I'd have another tomorrow except that I do too many miles and the old model like mine does 25mpg, although I would expect better consumption now I've been calmed down by a couple of focuses and a seat ibiza (switched to treg from an Audi S4 and was driving everywhere with pedal to metal). New ones supposedly do 39mpg but they cost £35k used

Agree with you Johnnymax, never owned a Touareg but had a few Toyotas, old ones and fairly new ones and they have always been very good. VWs i have known have been surprising lame but i think the newer Toyotas are not so good as the ones from the last decade either. still i never knew why the vw/audi badge was ever credited with such a reputation for reliabilty, i've never seen it personally.

Thanks lads, I have had my Land Cruiser 9 years now and it's hardly cost me a button apart from tyres and oil changes etc, Power Steering box started to chuck loads of fluid out last year but thats about it.

Upgrade to a new one then

my ex boss had a v10 on test and it drank more fuel than his supercharged RR

he settled on the 2.5tdi and it was dog slow and far too expensive to repair plus there isnt a whole lot of room inside it.

He later sold the RR and the vw and brought an audi Q7 v8 quattro never ad a single issue with it
