Buying a used welder

Hello,

I am considering buying a used welder from a established brand instead of buying a new Stahlwerk or something similar.
I woulg like a multiprocess type at around 200A, 1 phase.
What are the most important things to watch for in this case?
When buying a car, you look for year and milege and so on, but how can I tell the "milage" of a welder, or is it important?

fronius has discount prices on demo and refurbished machines. honestly thats probly what i would do

It's an interesting analogy, maybe walk around the machine and kick the wire feed
Though maybe the availability spare parts should be considered.

Not sure I would buy a used multi process machine....more complex and easier to miss when something isn't working.

Its hard to test for weld consistency I reckon....when I sold my used mig mate the guy bought it on one of the rare days that it worked beautifully .

He diddled me on the price so I didn't feel bad at all!

What's your budget, do you already have PPE/basic tools, do you want gas/gasless welding, there's so much to answer, so many unseen costs???????

It's not just buying a welder, trust me on this one??

If you are buying 2nd hand from a business rather than a dealer either the accountants have moved it on due to age or there's a fault.
I've bought a standby compressor, not used much just age; thankyou accountant.
I've bought a 170A mig used to build longboats, "we're renting from now on it plays up" I'm looking at the birds nest of copper wire on the earth clamp thinking I can see that.

I want to use it with gas, for starters it will be just jobs around the house and in time I would like to get into making chair and table legs for sale and various garden furniture items.
I had a 2 week course on welding with gas and I really like the fact that the weld is very clean when compared to gasless or stick welds.
I should memtion that we used industrial Fronius welders so the expectations are high, but the budget is low
I am thinking of about 1000£
