buying a few parts or newer mig

i have got a sip migmate i dont know what version it is but was not working when i had it

with luck you will see a pic of the exact one i have (this one is not mine nicked pic from ebay but exact one )below

my question is this come from a scrap yard in a bit of a sorry state was told it was working when it was brought in he said the guy had no reason to lie as he was just weigh it in for metal value

i had a broken washing mechine that i was picking up for someone and getting rid of it so done a swap with the guy

came home on the night and started mucking around cleaning and cheaking wires and put in a bit of copper wire in the top touched it to the earth clap and it sparked could not check it any more as had no wire

i went in to a welding shop and was told i had a 0.6 tip in it and asked if i needed a a gas bottle and when would i be needing it i said as it would be when and if needed poss normaly 3/10 times a year so i plumped for gas less and had to buy a tip had to change to 0.8 tip to go with the wire

went home and set it up with the new wire and tip and it worked but with problems with the wire (this seams a problem with sip machines looking through the forums feeding
looked at the rollers one of the wheels stiff so took that apart cleaned put it back together and them cleaned the feed tube in the handle and it works fairly well seams to feed with a constant feed 98 percent of the time

and now to the questions what can i weld with this mechine what are the limitations and would i be better to pay for new parts to get this fully working or just put the money together for a 2nd hand mig

can i do car body work and can i now get rid of my stick welder or should i keep this as well the main reason in the hope that this works is i can do car body if i need or to weld an exhaust if needed as i did use my stick welder in a cement mxier and i burned through in a few places

It should be capable of car body welding. Can you post a picture of the wire feeder? It's quite an old one so may pre-date the rubbish wirefeed issue.

Looks similar to the one I had, not sure if the wirefeed was one of the good ones though

i can do a pic a bit later i am at work at the moment my wire feeder is of all metal construction with cerclips to hold them in place with a bar coming off the 2nd roller that goes to a threaded bar with a hand screwed bit to adjust the tension again will post pic its i dont think the same as the ones on here with the plastic bits as i cant put the extra bar in mine if that helps

have to any instruction on how to use this i have only done stick welding before and not much of that and most of the weld looked like a blind person could have done better lol

i assume low middle high is the how thick the steel is is i i do not know what the black butten is for the speed butten im ok with that

Not used gas-less myself, but don't you need to change the polarity for best results? i.e. swop the terminals inside.

There's a manual available here. As KF suggests, you may have to swap over the polarity in order to get a satifactory gasless weld.

i dont know but can you zoom in on the top pic the black switch is not the same as the instructions its markings say the button out for co2 range 2 i assume range one is gas less or am i wrong any help on this (ps looked a few vids last night so have an idea on what i need to do most of the things i need doing don't require much and do not have to look good at the end the car welding will prob be done by the brother he knows what he doing but lives far away so he will only use it now and again
