Buying a Compressor and spray gun advice

Hiya guys, ive recently purchassed a mig, and now im on the look out for a second hand compressor and i will also buy a new spray gun. I would just like to know how big of compressor i will need to get i(flow rate, max pressure and tank size and anything else) as i say it will be running a spray gun, maybe air tools such as impact gun, deffo a circular sander, dremal and etc not to bothered about tools other than the sander i have all hand tools to car jobs. I will also be wanting a plasma cutter in the future so will need to supply that aswell. Also what kind of setup do i need for spraying (water traps etc.) and would this setup still be suited to a plasma.
What gun do you guys recomend for a nice resault obviously money is an issue so i will want one as cheap as can be but i will spend a little extra if its worth it but i dont reely need a proffetional gun for stupid money. All advice greatly apreciated!

I would say that the main thing to look for is CFM. If you can look for about 12cfm. There are lenty of tools that use near 10cfm so you want some head room. A good size tank I would say was 50litres not too big for storage but big enough for enough head room.

i think the important detail with compressors is the FAD (free air delivered) figure. the bigger the number the bigger air tool it will operate.

get a 3HP, 14CFM compressor. This is (AFAIK) the most powerful compressor you can easily run on mains electricity. get the biggest reciever tank you can afford/have space for. Minimum a 50L tank.

My compressor has a 50L tank and this copes well with spraying cellulose, (DONT spray 2-pack at home! ) and running air tools, because it is a 3HP, 14CFM, but the tank gets emptied fairly quickly, meaning the compressor needs to kick in when using a DA sander, but it manages to keep up.

get an orbital sander rather than a circular sander if you are going to be doing paint prep. I also run a 10mm belt sander and die grinder and sometimes an air impact wrench. LAst job I used the compressor for was rustproofing the box sections of one of my classic cars. I keep seperate schutz guns for wax and stone chip coating.

Oh, and buy decent quality tools! NOT ALDI rubbish! (although some have different experience).

sealey make a nice d /a sander ive had one for years and all the parts are still readily available the only thing that went on mine is the small plastic valve on the air trigger . rang sealey up they delivered it the next day 4 quid inc del ivery cant get any better than that

I will get a hand held DA rather than opne with a handul and think im gonna get a sealy gun unless ay one advises otherwise. heres 2 guns im thinking of:

One of the guns is a HVLP (high volocity low pressure) and so im not sure weather this is better or not? the guns both have a 1.4mm nossel wic seems about the medium and so im guessing a good all rounder/starting point? I've never had a problem with sealey in the past i buy all my hydrolic tools from sealey and alot of the equiptment at work is sealey.
As for tools i =ve got most hand tools i need and like a muppet i filled my work box and most my home tools are snap-on and theyre just far too expensive (after taking abou£3500 to figure this out) and i think that cheaper makes like facom, tengtools, britool etc are perfectly up to the job and alot even comes with a lifetime gurentee. any way befor i get ranting and raving again thanks for help and will update my project thread as i got the spot-priming done last weekendwith areo-sols!

I use a gun like the non-hvlp one there with a 1.4 tip on my 3hp SIP compressor and it runs about 40psi with the paint suitably thinned. My compressor will fill while the gun is still spraying. Unrelated to air question, I bought a Bahco S87+7 toolkit on ebay for £60 including post and they usually sell for at least £140. It has a good selection of tools and sockets and would have been a bargain even at the retail price. An air powered DA will struggle on your 2hp, Rotary tools take lots of cfm at about 90psi usually

Again thanks for the great help. I have spoken to the rep from the bs suplies that supplies me and the bodyshop at work about pricing on the guns and he said that they have a demo gun for all the £40-90 guns (a few of them being the sealey's) that he can bring down with him and let me have a go of a few, so thats great stuff!
