Butters 215 problem

Hi, just joined this forum and I'm looking for a bit of help.
I've got a Butters 215 and last weekend got it out to do a bit of welding on my Land Rover and found that when pressing the trigger it was stuttering and not working continuously when holding the trigger in. After a few attempts, it got going ok and I was able to do an afternoons work.
Got it out today and turned it on, pressed trigger and it gave me about 10mm of wire then nothing!
I took the torch lead off and put a piece of wire between the two switch terminals and powered it back up, but nothing again.
The fans are working ok, but no wire feed.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Welcome to the forum.

When you pull the trigger or short the terminals could you hear the contactor pull in? This would be a "thid" coming from inside the machine.

Also work the power switches a few times, one may not be making proper contact.

undo the wire tension and see if the rollers go around, when you press the trigger, it might be a liner full of carp.

There is no noise at all and the motor is not turning the rollers.

Odds on it's a relay. Really need a circuit diagram or a Butters expert to appear!

1st job have a look for loose wires or blown fuses.

Have a look for a printed circuit board, it may have a relay on it, check the condition of the tracks on the PCB.

Right, finally I had time to get it out of the shed and into the house so I could have a good look at it.

Tried to power it up but nothing was happening. I noticed that there is a single fuse holder above the pcb that was cracked so a bit of super glue sorted that and it powered up ok but still no response from pressing the trigger.

I took the pcb off but didn't notice any visible problems with it.

I think it may need a visit to a professional engineer tho the nearest is about 25 miles away.
